Ocracoke Destinations

While Ocracoke's beaches are beautiful, there's much more to do on the island and in the village than just visiting the beaches.

The British Graveyard is a popular site, the location of the graves of four British sailors from the HMS Bedfordshire which was torpedoed by a U-Boat in 1942.

Towering above Ocracoke village is Ocracoke Lighthouse. Constructed in 1823, it is one of the oldest lighthouses still in active service in the United States. The lighthouse is the most recognized symbol of the island, and is the first thing visible upon arriving at the island, whether it be by plane or by boat.

Howard's Pub is known region-wide. From the hoop and string game, a local favorite, to family lunch and dining during the day, to a great club with live music at night, Howard's Pub is the place to be morning to night on Ocracoke Island. There are many other clubs and bars at which vacationers gather nightly each summer.

Camping is another popular activity on the island, and thanks to the beaches' designation as a part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a National Park, the area will always remain a pristine and beautiful location to get a look at nature. Just watch out for those summer bugs!

So remember, you can come for the beach, but you'll stay for all the great things to see!
