Ocracoke Island NC

Ocracoke Island is a beautiful hidden haven on the coast of North Carolina. Tucked away in the southern end of the Outer Banks, Ocracoke’s location has helped it remain relatively unknown, in spite of its beauty - at least until 2007, when it was selected as America’s number one beach by Dr. Beach. Home to less than 1,000 locals, Ocracoke’s population has for years grown exponentially each summer as North Carolinians inundated its pristine shores.

Even after being named America's best beach, though, Ocracoke's secluded location has allowed it to maintain its small-town atmosphere. There are no bridges to Ocracoke - the island is only accessible by air or boat (one popular ferry takes 2 1/2 hours to arrive).
